Queijo Serra da Estrela PDO is one of Portugal's gastronomic jewels, handmade in the mountainous region of Serra da Estrela. The famous Serra da Estrela cheese is made from the milk of Serra da Estrela Bordaleira sheep, fed exclusively on pastures in the region. To this unique milk, thistle flower and salt are added to curdle it. The curd is then drained and transformed into cheese by the hands of the cheesemakers.
Its unmistakable aroma and flavour characteristics, together with its yellowish colour, semi-soft buttery paste, either softer or harder, fully satisfy the most demanding palate.
Queijo Serra da Estrela PDO is the oldest of all Portuguese cheeses, recognised internationally for its organoleptic characteristics.
Ideal for eating with a spoon, spreading on fresh bread or pairing with regional wines, honey or traditional cured meats.
